1) 2 Samuel 5:11-6:23 , 1 Chronicles 13-16
David Conquers Jerusalem
1Ch 3:5-9; 11:4-9; 14:1-7
11 (1Ch 14:1; 1Ki 5:1-2) King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David
with cedar wood, carpenters, and stonemasons,
and they built a house for David.
12 Then David understood that the Lord had appointed him king over Israel,
and that He had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
13 (1Ch 3:9; Dt 17:17) David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem,
after having come from Hebron, and they bore him more sons and daughters.
14 These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem:
Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,
16 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.
[11] And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and
carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
[12] And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel,
and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.
[13] And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he
was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
[14] And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem;
Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
[15] Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
[16] And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.
David Defeats the Philistines
1Ch 14:8-17
17 (2Sa 23:14; 1Ch 11:16) When the Philistines heard that they had
anointed David king over Israel, all of the Philistines went up
to search for David, but David heard about this and went down
to the stronghold.
18 (Jos 15:8; Ge 14:5) Now the Philistines had come
and were spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.
19 (2Sa 2:1; 1Sa 23:2) So David asked the Lord,
"Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?"
The Lord said to David, "Go up, because I will certainly
give them into your hand."
20 (Isa 28:21) So David came to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there.
He said, "The Lord has breached my enemies before me like bursting tides."
Therefore, he named that place Baal Perazim.
21 (Dt 7:5) The Philistines abandoned their idols there,
and David and his men carried them away.
22 Once again, the Philistines went up
and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.
23 When David inquired of the Lord, He said,
"You shall not go up. Circle around behind them and come against them
opposite the trees.
24 (Jdg 4:14; 2Ki 7:6) When you hear the sound of marching in the tops
of the trees, pay attention, because at that point the Lord is going
before you to defeat the army of the Philistines."
25 (1Ch 14:16) So David did just as the Lord commanded,
and he defeated the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.
[17] But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over
Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it,
and went down to the hold.
[18] The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of
Rephaim.
[19] And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the
Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto
David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
[20] And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said,
The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of
waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
[21] And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
[22] And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the
valley of Rephaim.
[23] And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but
fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry
trees.
[24] And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of
the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the
LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
[25] And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the
Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
2 SAMUEL 6
The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
1Ch 13:1-14; 15:25-16:3
1 Again David gathered all of the chosen men in Israel, 20000.
2 (1Sa 4:4; 7:1) David and all of the people who were with him
arose and went from Baalah of Judah to bring up the ark of God,
so named for the name of the Lord of Hosts who sits enthroned
among the cherubim that are upon it.
3 (1Sa 6:7) They loaded the ark of God on a new cart
and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill.
Uzzah and Ahio the sons of Abinadab were driving the new cart.
4 (1Ch 13:7) They brought it with the ark of God from the house
of Abinadab on the hill, and Ahio was walking in front of the ark.
5 (1Ch 13:8; Ps 150:3-5) Meanwhile, David and the entire house of Israel
were celebrating before the Lord with all sorts of instruments
made of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines,
on sistrums, and on cymbals.
6 (Nu 4:15; 1Ch 13:9) When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon,
Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God,
because the oxen had stumbled.
7 (1Sa 6:19; 1Ch 15:13) The Lord became angry against Uzzah,
and God struck him down on the spot for his irreverence.
He died there beside the ark of God.
8 David became angry because of the outburst of the Lord against Uzzah;
that place is called Perez Uzzah to this day.
9 (Ps 119:120) David feared the Lord that day, and he thought,
"How can the ark of the Lord come to me?"
10 (1Ch 26:4-8) So David did not allow the ark of the Lord
to be brought to him in the City of David. Instead,
David redirected it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
11 (Ge 30:27; 39:5) The ark of the Lord remained at the house of Obed-Edom
the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-Edom
and his entire household.
12 (1Ki 8:1) When it was reported to King David,
"The Lord has blessed Obed-Edom and everything that belongs to him,
for the sake of the ark of God," David went and brought up the ark of God
from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.
13 (1Ki 8:5; Nu 4:15) When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord
had taken six steps, David would sacrifice an ox and a fattened steer.
14 (Ex 15:20; 1Sa 2:18) David danced before the Lord with all of his might,
and he wore a linen ephod.
15 So David and the whole house of Israel escorted the ark of the Lord
with shouting and the sound of the horn.
16 (1Ch 15:29; 2Sa 3:14) When the ark of the Lord entered the City of David,
Michal the daughter of Saul looked down from the window,
and upon seeing King David leaping and dancing before the Lord,
she thought contemptuously of him in her mind.
17 (1Ch 15:1; 2Ch 1:4) They brought the ark of the Lord
and set it in its place inside the tent that David had erected for it.
Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.
18 (1Ki 8:55) When David had finished offering the burnt offerings
and peace offerings, he blessed the people before the Lord of Hosts.
19 (Ne 8:10) He distributed to all of the people, the entire multitude
of Israel, both men and women, one bread cake, one date cake,
and one raisin cake to each one.
Then all of the people left, each to his house.
20 (2Sa 6:16; 6:14; Jdg 9:4) David returned to bless his household,
but Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet him. She said,
"How the king of Israel has dignified himself today, exposing himself
this day in the sight of his servant's slave girls like one of the rabble
might shamelessly expose himself."
21 (1Sa 13:14; 15:28) Then David responded to Michal, "It was
before the Lord, who chose me over your father
and over everyone in his household, to appoint me ruler
over the people of the Lord, over Israel.
I was celebrating before the Lord.
22 I will humble myself even more than this and be abased in my own eyes.
But by the maidservants, of whom you have spoken, I will be held in honor."
23 (Mt 1:25) Michal the daughter of Saul
had no children to the day of her death.
2 Samuel 6
[1] Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty
thousand.
[2] And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from
Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called
by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
[3] And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the
house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of
Abinadab, drave the new cart.
[4] And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah,
accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
[5] And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all
manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries,
and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
[6] And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand
to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
[7] And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him
there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
[8] And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah:
and he called the name of the place Perez-uzzah to this day.
[9] And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark
of the LORD come to me?
[10] So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of
David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
[11] And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite
three months: and the LORD blessed Obed-edom, and all his household.
[12] And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of
Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So
David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into
the city of David with gladness.
[13] And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone
six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
[14] And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was
girded with a linen ephod.
[15] So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD
with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
[16] And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's
daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing
before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
[17] And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in
the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered
burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
[18] And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and
peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
[19] And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of
Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a
good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every
one to his house.
[20] Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of
Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his
servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
[21] And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me
before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the
people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
[22] And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own
sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be
had in honour.
[23] Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her
death.

The Ark
2Sa 6:1-11
1 So David conferred with the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds
and with every leader.
2 (1Sa 31:1) Then he said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to
you and to the Lord our God, let us send word to the rest of our brothers
throughout all the land of Israel along with the priests and the Levites
in their cities, that they might join us here.
3 (1Sa 7:1-2) Then let us bring the ark of the Lord our God back to us,
for we did not seek it during the days of Saul."
4 Then all the assembly agreed to do it because the thing seemed
right in the eyes of all the people.
5 (1Sa 6:21-7:1; 2Sa 6:1) So David assembled all Israel, from Shihor
in Egypt as far as the entrance to Hamath, in order to bring the ark
of God from Kiriath Jearim.
6 (Jos 15:9; Ex 25:22) And he went up with all Israel to Baalah,
that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up
the ark of God, the Lord who dwells between the cherubim,
where His name is called.
7 (Nu 4:15) They transported the ark of God on a new cart
from the house of Abinadab with Uzzah and Ahio driving
the cart
8 while David and all Israel played music before God with all their might,
performing songs on lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
9 (2Sa 6:6) When they had come as far as the threshing floor of Kidon,
Uzzah stretched out his hand to take hold of the ark because the oxen
had stumbled on the path.
10 (1Ch 15:13; 15:15) Then the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah,
and He struck him because he reached his hand out to touch the ark.
Thus, Uzzah died there before God.
11 Now David was angry because the Lord struck out against Uzzah,
so he called that place Perez Uzzah, as it is to this day.
12 David was afraid of God that day, saying,
"How can I ever bring the ark of God to myself?"
13 (1Ch 15:18; 26:4) So David stopped moving the ark of God to himself
in the City of David and diverted it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite,
14 (1Ch 26:4-5) and while the ark of God stayed in his house three months,
the Lord blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all he had.
[1] And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and
with every leader.
[2] And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good
unto
you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our
brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with
them
also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that
they may gather themselves unto us:
[3] And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we inquired not at
it in the days of Saul.
[4] And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was
right in the eyes of all the people.
[5] So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even unto

David Established at Jerusalem

1 (2Sa 5:11-16; 2Ch 2:3) Then Hiram the king of Tyre sent messengers

a palace for him.
2 (Nu 24:7) So David knew that the Lord had established him as king
over Israel because his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake
of His people Israel.
3 Now David took more wives in Jerusalem,
and David became the father of more sons and daughters.
4 (1Ch 3:5-9) These are the names of the children who were born to him
in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
72 (Sa 5:16; 1Ch 3:8) Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

but David heard and went out to them.

"Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?"
The Lord answered, "Go up against them, and I will give them into your hand."
11 (Isa 28:21) And they went up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them down
there. Then David said, "God broke through my enemies by my hand
as the breaking through of waters." Therefore they named that place
Baal Perazim.
12 (Ex 32:20) They abandoned their gods there, and David said that they
should be burned with fire.
13 (1Ch 14:9) Now the Philistines raided the valley once more.
14 And David again inquired of God, and God answered him:
"Do not go up after them, but turn around behind them
and come to them in front of the balsam trees.
15 Whenever you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees,
you will advance the battle, for God has gone out before you to strike
the camp of the Philistines."
16 David did just as God commanded him, and they struck the camp
of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer.
17 (Dt 2:25; Ex 15:14-16) So the fame of David went out in all the lands,
and the Lord put the dread of him on all the nations.

the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
[17] And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the
fear of him upon all nations.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
2Sa 6:12-19
1 (1Ch 16:1; 15:3) So David built houses for himself in the City of David,
and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
2 (Dt 10:8; 31:9) Then David said, "No one may carry the ark of God
except the Levites since the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the
Lord and to minister before Him always."
3 (1Ki 8:1; 1Ch 13:5) David assembled all Israel to Jerusalem in order
to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it.
4 And David gathered representatives of the sons of Aaron and the Levites,
as follows:
5 from the sons of Kohath,
Uriel the leader and one hundred and twenty of his brothers;
6 from the sons of Merari,
Asaiah the leader and two hundred and twenty of his brothers;
7 from the sons of Gershom,
Joel the leader and one hundred and thirty of his brothers;
8 (Ex 6:22) from the sons of Elizaphan,
Shemaiah the leader and two hundred of his brothers;
9 (Ex 6:18) from the sons of Hebron,
Eliel the leader and eighty of his brothers;
10 from the sons of Uzziel,
Amminadab the leader and one hundred and twelve of his brothers.
11 (1Ch 12:28; 1Sa 22:20-23) Then David called for Zadok and Abiathar
the priests and for the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel,
and Amminadab.
12 (2Ch 35:6; Ex 19:14-15) He said to them, "You are the captains
of the fathers' houses for the Levites. Consecrate yourselves, you
and your brothers, so you may bring up the ark of the Lord,
the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it
13 (2Sa 6:3) because on the first attempt without you the Lord
struck out against us since we did not seek Him properly."
14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up
the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel.
15 (Nu 4:15; 7:9) The sons of the Levites lifted up the ark of God just
as Moses commanded, with the poles on their shoulders,
according to the word of the Lord.
16 (1Ch 13:8; 16:42) Then David told the leaders of the Levites
to position their brothers the singers with musical instruments,
harps, lyres, and cymbals to resound with joyful songs.
17 (1Ch 6:33; 6:39) So the Levites placed Heman the son of Joel,
and from his brothers, Asaph the son of Berekiah, and from
their brothers the sons of Merari, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,
18 (1Ch 26:4) and with them their brothers of the second rank:
Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah,
Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel,
the gatekeepers.
19 (1Ch 25:6) So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were directed
to sound cymbals of brass.
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah,
and Benaiah were to accompany with harps on Alamoth.
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel,
and Azaziah were to lead with lyres on the Sheminith.
22 Kenaniah, leader of the Levites, was to conduct the music
because he was skillful.
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 (1Ch 16:6; Nu 10:8) Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai,
Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, were assigned
to sound trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom
and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the ark.
25 So David, the elders of Israel, and the leaders of the thousands
went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord
from the house of Obed-Edom with rejoicing.
26 (Nu 23:29; Job 42:8) Since God helped the Levites who carried
the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they sacrificed seven bulls
and seven rams.
27 (2Sa 6:14) Now David was clothed in a fine linen robe,
as were the Levites who carried the ark, the singers, and Kenaniah,
the conductor of singing and singers. David himself wore a linen ephod.
28 (1Ch 13:8; 15:16) So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the
Lord with a shout and with the sound of the ram's horn and with trumpets
and cymbals, making music on harps and lyres.
29 (2Sa 6:16) Now as the ark of the covenant of the Lord was entering
the City of David, Michal the daughter of Saul was looking down
from the window, and when she saw King David dancing and spinning,
she despised him in her heart.
[1] And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for
the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.
[2] Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for
them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him
for ever.
[3] And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark
of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.
[4] And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:
[5] Of the sons of Kohath; Uriel the chief, and his brethren an hundred and
twenty:
[6] Of the sons of Merari; Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred
and twenty:
[7] Of the sons of Gershom; Joel the chief, and his brethren an hundred and
thirty:
[8] Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two
hundred:
[9] Of the sons of Hebron; Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore:
[10] Of the sons of Uzziel; Amminadab the chief, and his brethren an hundred
and twelve.
[11] And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the
Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,
[12] And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites:
sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark
of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
[13] For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach
upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
[14] So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the
ark of the LORD God of Israel.
[15] And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their

The Ark Set in the Tent
1 (1Ch 15:1) So they brought in the ark of God, placed it in the midst
of the tent that David had erected for it, and drew near to God with

and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.

Worship Before the Ark
37 (2Ch 8:14; Ezr 3:4) So he left Asaph and his brothers

38 (1Ch 13:14; 26:10) and also Obed-Edom and his 68 brothers,
while Obed-Edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.
39 (1Ki 3:4; 1Ch 15:11) And he left Zadok the priest and his priestly brothers
before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon
40 (Nu 28:3-8; Ex 29:38-4) 2to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar
of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, according to all that
was written in the Law of the Lord, which He commanded Israel.

The "monster" in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is one of the most widely known
literary characters, captivating our cultural imagination. But close readers
of the beloved novel know that a strong case can be made that Shelley
actually portrays Victor Frankenstein, the delusional scientist who created
the creature, as the real monster. After creating an intelligent creature,
Victor denies him any guidance, companionship, or hope of happiness-seemingly
guaranteeing the creature's descent into desperation and rage.
Confronting Victor, the creature laments,
"You, my creator, would tear me to pieces and triumph."
Scripture reveals how different the true Creator of all things is-with
unchanging, tireless love for His creation. God didn't create on a whim,
but out of love created a beautiful, "very good" world (Genesis 1:31).
And even when humanity turned from Him to choose monstrous evil instead,
God's commitment to and love for humanity didn’t change.
As Jesus explained to Nicodemus, God’s love for His creation was so great
He was willing to give even what was most dear to Him-"his one and only Son"
(John 3:16)-that the world might be saved. Jesus sacrificed Himself, bearing
the consequences of our sin, so "that everyone who believes may have eternal
life in him" (v. 15).
We have a Creator we can trust with our hearts and lives.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 5 - Learning by Heart
Ps 119:9,11
9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) How shall a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You.
9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
That I might not sin against thee.
"His heart is not just in it," a gifted musician commented about the
pianist onstage. "He's here at the Orchestra Hall, playing for
thousands of people, an his technique is flawless, but something
is missing - his heart is just not in it."
The psalmist , in Psalm 119, draws a similar parallel. We "Keep our
way pure" through obedience of his Word, by ordering our lives according
to the commands of the Scriptures. But outward behaviour is not the only
essential factor in purity of life. The changes in our behaviour need to
come from the heart, from the inside out. Our "technique" for living
the Christian life may be flawless, but our obediance is founded
in heart motivation, something is certainly missing.
"I seek you with all my heart," the psalmist declares in verse 10.
Thus he can say in verse 11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You."
Often we refer to memorisation as "learning by heart" - and indeed
"by heart" is the biblical mandate for assimilating God's truth
into our daily lives. "By rote" or "By Mind" leaves us
intellectually overstuffed, yet spiritually starving.
When we try to apply the Word outwardly to our behaviour,
we end up in a tangle of legalism, a log "do list" by which
we hope to please God. But when we set our hearts toward God first,
then changes in our behaviour grow out of love for God and a deep
desire to serve him. Then we are truly loving and obeying God with
our whole hearts.
Application
a) In what ways have I tried to apply God's word to my behaviour
without having the truth firmly in my heart? What was the result?
b) How can I set my heart toward God and give myself more fully
to his Word?
c) What areas of my life need "purifying"? How can these verses
help me to "make my way pure"?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connectiosn with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

Christ among Muslim people -

David Conquers Jerusalem

and they built a house for David.
12 Then David understood that the Lord had appointed him king over Israel,
and that He had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

after having come from Hebron, and they bore him more sons and daughters.

David Defeats the Philistines
1Ch 14:8-17
17 (2Sa 23:14; 1Ch 11:16) When the Philistines heard that they had
anointed David king over Israel, all of the Philistines went up
to search for David, but David heard about this and went down
to the stronghold.
18 (Jos 15:8; Ge 14:5) Now the Philistines had come
and were spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.
19 (2Sa 2:1; 1Sa 23:2) So David asked the Lord,
"Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?"
The Lord said to David, "Go up, because I will certainly
give them into your hand."
20 (Isa 28:21) So David came to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there.
He said, "The Lord has breached my enemies before me like bursting tides."
Therefore, he named that place Baal Perazim.
21 (Dt 7:5) The Philistines abandoned their idols there,
and David and his men carried them away.
22 Once again, the Philistines went up
and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.
23 When David inquired of the Lord, He said,
"You shall not go up. Circle around behind them and come against them
opposite the trees.
24 (Jdg 4:14; 2Ki 7:6) When you hear the sound of marching in the tops
of the trees, pay attention, because at that point the Lord is going
before you to defeat the army of the Philistines."
25 (1Ch 14:16) So David did just as the Lord commanded,
and he defeated the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.
[17] But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over
Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it,
and went down to the hold.
[18] The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of
Rephaim.
[19] And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the
Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto
David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
[20] And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said,
The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of
waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
[21] And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
[22] And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the
valley of Rephaim.
[23] And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but
fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry
trees.
[24] And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of
the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the
LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
[25] And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the
Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
2 SAMUEL 6
The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
1Ch 13:1-14; 15:25-16:3
1 Again David gathered all of the chosen men in Israel, 20000.
2 (1Sa 4:4; 7:1) David and all of the people who were with him
arose and went from Baalah of Judah to bring up the ark of God,
so named for the name of the Lord of Hosts who sits enthroned
among the cherubim that are upon it.
3 (1Sa 6:7) They loaded the ark of God on a new cart
and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill.
Uzzah and Ahio the sons of Abinadab were driving the new cart.
4 (1Ch 13:7) They brought it with the ark of God from the house
of Abinadab on the hill, and Ahio was walking in front of the ark.
5 (1Ch 13:8; Ps 150:3-5) Meanwhile, David and the entire house of Israel
were celebrating before the Lord with all sorts of instruments
made of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines,
on sistrums, and on cymbals.
6 (Nu 4:15; 1Ch 13:9) When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon,
Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God,
because the oxen had stumbled.
7 (1Sa 6:19; 1Ch 15:13) The Lord became angry against Uzzah,
and God struck him down on the spot for his irreverence.
He died there beside the ark of God.
8 David became angry because of the outburst of the Lord against Uzzah;
that place is called Perez Uzzah to this day.
9 (Ps 119:120) David feared the Lord that day, and he thought,
"How can the ark of the Lord come to me?"
10 (1Ch 26:4-8) So David did not allow the ark of the Lord
to be brought to him in the City of David. Instead,
David redirected it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
11 (Ge 30:27; 39:5) The ark of the Lord remained at the house of Obed-Edom
the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-Edom
and his entire household.
12 (1Ki 8:1) When it was reported to King David,
"The Lord has blessed Obed-Edom and everything that belongs to him,
for the sake of the ark of God," David went and brought up the ark of God
from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.
13 (1Ki 8:5; Nu 4:15) When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord
had taken six steps, David would sacrifice an ox and a fattened steer.
14 (Ex 15:20; 1Sa 2:18) David danced before the Lord with all of his might,
and he wore a linen ephod.
15 So David and the whole house of Israel escorted the ark of the Lord
with shouting and the sound of the horn.
16 (1Ch 15:29; 2Sa 3:14) When the ark of the Lord entered the City of David,
Michal the daughter of Saul looked down from the window,
and upon seeing King David leaping and dancing before the Lord,
she thought contemptuously of him in her mind.
17 (1Ch 15:1; 2Ch 1:4) They brought the ark of the Lord
and set it in its place inside the tent that David had erected for it.
Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.
18 (1Ki 8:55) When David had finished offering the burnt offerings
and peace offerings, he blessed the people before the Lord of Hosts.
19 (Ne 8:10) He distributed to all of the people, the entire multitude
of Israel, both men and women, one bread cake, one date cake,
and one raisin cake to each one.
Then all of the people left, each to his house.
20 (2Sa 6:16; 6:14; Jdg 9:4) David returned to bless his household,
but Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet him. She said,
"How the king of Israel has dignified himself today, exposing himself
this day in the sight of his servant's slave girls like one of the rabble
might shamelessly expose himself."
21 (1Sa 13:14; 15:28) Then David responded to Michal, "It was
before the Lord, who chose me over your father
and over everyone in his household, to appoint me ruler
over the people of the Lord, over Israel.
I was celebrating before the Lord.
22 I will humble myself even more than this and be abased in my own eyes.
But by the maidservants, of whom you have spoken, I will be held in honor."
23 (Mt 1:25) Michal the daughter of Saul
had no children to the day of her death.
2 Samuel 6
[1] Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty
thousand.
[2] And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from
Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called
by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
[3] And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the
house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of
Abinadab, drave the new cart.
[4] And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah,
accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
[5] And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all
manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries,
and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
[6] And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand
to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
[7] And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him
there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
[8] And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah:
and he called the name of the place Perez-uzzah to this day.
[9] And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark
of the LORD come to me?
[10] So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of
David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
[11] And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite
three months: and the LORD blessed Obed-edom, and all his household.
[12] And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of
Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So
David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into
the city of David with gladness.
[13] And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone
six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
[14] And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was
girded with a linen ephod.
[15] So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD
with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
[16] And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's
daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing
before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
[17] And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in
the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered
burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
[18] And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and
peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
[19] And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of
Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a
good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every
one to his house.
[20] Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of
Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his
servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
[21] And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me
before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the
people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
[22] And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own
sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be
had in honour.
[23] Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her
death.
1 CHRONICLES 13
The Ark
2Sa 6:1-11
1 So David conferred with the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds
and with every leader.
2 (1Sa 31:1) Then he said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to
you and to the Lord our God, let us send word to the rest of our brothers
throughout all the land of Israel along with the priests and the Levites
in their cities, that they might join us here.
3 (1Sa 7:1-2) Then let us bring the ark of the Lord our God back to us,
for we did not seek it during the days of Saul."
4 Then all the assembly agreed to do it because the thing seemed
right in the eyes of all the people.
5 (1Sa 6:21-7:1; 2Sa 6:1) So David assembled all Israel, from Shihor
in Egypt as far as the entrance to Hamath, in order to bring the ark
of God from Kiriath Jearim.
6 (Jos 15:9; Ex 25:22) And he went up with all Israel to Baalah,
that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up
the ark of God, the Lord who dwells between the cherubim,
where His name is called.
7 (Nu 4:15) They transported the ark of God on a new cart
from the house of Abinadab with Uzzah and Ahio driving
the cart
8 while David and all Israel played music before God with all their might,
performing songs on lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
9 (2Sa 6:6) When they had come as far as the threshing floor of Kidon,
Uzzah stretched out his hand to take hold of the ark because the oxen
had stumbled on the path.
10 (1Ch 15:13; 15:15) Then the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah,
and He struck him because he reached his hand out to touch the ark.
Thus, Uzzah died there before God.
11 Now David was angry because the Lord struck out against Uzzah,
so he called that place Perez Uzzah, as it is to this day.
12 David was afraid of God that day, saying,
"How can I ever bring the ark of God to myself?"
13 (1Ch 15:18; 26:4) So David stopped moving the ark of God to himself
in the City of David and diverted it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite,
14 (1Ch 26:4-5) and while the ark of God stayed in his house three months,
the Lord blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all he had.
[1] And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and
with every leader.
[2] And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good
unto
you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our
brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with
them
also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that
they may gather themselves unto us:
[3] And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we inquired not at
it in the days of Saul.
[4] And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was
right in the eyes of all the people.

David Established at Jerusalem

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
2Sa 6:12-19
1 (1Ch 16:1; 15:3) So David built houses for himself in the City of David,
and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
2 (Dt 10:8; 31:9) Then David said, "No one may carry the ark of God
except the Levites since the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the
Lord and to minister before Him always."
3 (1Ki 8:1; 1Ch 13:5) David assembled all Israel to Jerusalem in order
to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it.
4 And David gathered representatives of the sons of Aaron and the Levites,
as follows:
5 from the sons of Kohath,
Uriel the leader and one hundred and twenty of his brothers;
6 from the sons of Merari,
Asaiah the leader and two hundred and twenty of his brothers;
7 from the sons of Gershom,
Joel the leader and one hundred and thirty of his brothers;
8 (Ex 6:22) from the sons of Elizaphan,
Shemaiah the leader and two hundred of his brothers;
9 (Ex 6:18) from the sons of Hebron,
Eliel the leader and eighty of his brothers;
10 from the sons of Uzziel,
Amminadab the leader and one hundred and twelve of his brothers.
11 (1Ch 12:28; 1Sa 22:20-23) Then David called for Zadok and Abiathar
the priests and for the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel,
and Amminadab.
12 (2Ch 35:6; Ex 19:14-15) He said to them, "You are the captains
of the fathers' houses for the Levites. Consecrate yourselves, you
and your brothers, so you may bring up the ark of the Lord,
the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it
13 (2Sa 6:3) because on the first attempt without you the Lord
struck out against us since we did not seek Him properly."
14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up
the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel.
15 (Nu 4:15; 7:9) The sons of the Levites lifted up the ark of God just
as Moses commanded, with the poles on their shoulders,
according to the word of the Lord.
16 (1Ch 13:8; 16:42) Then David told the leaders of the Levites
to position their brothers the singers with musical instruments,
harps, lyres, and cymbals to resound with joyful songs.
17 (1Ch 6:33; 6:39) So the Levites placed Heman the son of Joel,
and from his brothers, Asaph the son of Berekiah, and from
their brothers the sons of Merari, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,
18 (1Ch 26:4) and with them their brothers of the second rank:
Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah,
Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel,
the gatekeepers.
19 (1Ch 25:6) So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were directed
to sound cymbals of brass.
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah,
and Benaiah were to accompany with harps on Alamoth.
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel,
and Azaziah were to lead with lyres on the Sheminith.
22 Kenaniah, leader of the Levites, was to conduct the music
because he was skillful.
23 Berekiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 (1Ch 16:6; Nu 10:8) Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai,
Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, were assigned
to sound trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom
and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the ark.
25 So David, the elders of Israel, and the leaders of the thousands
went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord
from the house of Obed-Edom with rejoicing.

[14] So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the
ark of the LORD God of Israel.
[15] And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their
shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word
of the LORD.
[16] And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren
to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and
cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
[17] So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren,
Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan
the son of Kushaiah;
[18] And with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and
Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and

The Ark Set in the Tent
1 (1Ch 15:1) So they brought in the ark of God, placed it in the midst
of the tent that David had erected for it, and drew near to God with
burnt offerings and peace offerings.
2 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings
and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.
3 Then he distributed to all the children of Israel, both men and women,
a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a raisin cake for each.
4 And he appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord,
to commemorate, to thank, and to praise the Lord God of Israel:

Worship Before the Ark
37 (2Ch 8:14; Ezr 3:4) So he left Asaph and his brothers
before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister
before the ark regularly, as each day required,
38 (1Ch 13:14; 26:10) and also Obed-Edom and his 68 brothers,
while Obed-Edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.
39 (1Ki 3:4; 1Ch 15:11) And he left Zadok the priest and his priestly brothers
before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon
40 (Nu 28:3-8; Ex 29:38-4) 2to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar
of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, according to all that
was written in the Law of the Lord, which He commanded Israel.
41 (2Ch 5:13; 1Ch 25:1-6) With them were Heman and Jeduthun
and the rest who were chosen, who were marked by name to give
thanks to the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.
42 Heman and Jeduthun had with them trumpets and cymbals to sound
aloud and instruments for sacred song.
The sons of Jeduthun were appointed to the gate.
43 (2Sa 6:19-20) Then all the people departed, each man to his house,
and David returned to bless his house.
[37] So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and
his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work
required:
[38] And Obed-edom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obed-edom also
the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters:
[39] And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the
tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon,

The "monster" in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is one of the most widely known
literary characters, captivating our cultural imagination. But close readers
of the beloved novel know that a strong case can be made that Shelley
actually portrays Victor Frankenstein, the delusional scientist who created
the creature, as the real monster. After creating an intelligent creature,
Victor denies him any guidance, companionship, or hope of happiness-seemingly
guaranteeing the creature's descent into desperation and rage.
Confronting Victor, the creature laments,
"You, my creator, would tear me to pieces and triumph."
Scripture reveals how different the true Creator of all things is-with
unchanging, tireless love for His creation. God didn't create on a whim,
but out of love created a beautiful, "very good" world (Genesis 1:31).
And even when humanity turned from Him to choose monstrous evil instead,
God's commitment to and love for humanity didn’t change.
As Jesus explained to Nicodemus, God’s love for His creation was so great
He was willing to give even what was most dear to Him-"his one and only Son"
(John 3:16)-that the world might be saved. Jesus sacrificed Himself, bearing
the consequences of our sin, so "that everyone who believes may have eternal
life in him" (v. 15).
We have a Creator we can trust with our hearts and lives.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 5 - Learning by Heart
Ps 119:9,11
9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) How shall a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You.
9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
That I might not sin against thee.
"His heart is not just in it," a gifted musician commented about the
pianist onstage. "He's here at the Orchestra Hall, playing for
thousands of people, an his technique is flawless, but something
is missing - his heart is just not in it."
The psalmist , in Psalm 119, draws a similar parallel. We "Keep our
way pure" through obedience of his Word, by ordering our lives according
to the commands of the Scriptures. But outward behaviour is not the only
essential factor in purity of life. The changes in our behaviour need to
come from the heart, from the inside out. Our "technique" for living
the Christian life may be flawless, but our obediance is founded
in heart motivation, something is certainly missing.
"I seek you with all my heart," the psalmist declares in verse 10.
Thus he can say in verse 11, "Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You."
Often we refer to memorisation as "learning by heart" - and indeed
"by heart" is the biblical mandate for assimilating God's truth
into our daily lives. "By rote" or "By Mind" leaves us
intellectually overstuffed, yet spiritually starving.
When we try to apply the Word outwardly to our behaviour,
we end up in a tangle of legalism, a log "do list" by which
we hope to please God. But when we set our hearts toward God first,
then changes in our behaviour grow out of love for God and a deep
desire to serve him. Then we are truly loving and obeying God with
our whole hearts.
Application
a) In what ways have I tried to apply God's word to my behaviour
without having the truth firmly in my heart? What was the result?
b) How can I set my heart toward God and give myself more fully
to his Word?
c) What areas of my life need "purifying"? How can these verses
help me to "make my way pure"?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connectiosn with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,
I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to
cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.
Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians
and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the
love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.
One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by
light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.
As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and
confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution
to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.
Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

a) Pray for the Church to make the Gospel accessible to all Canadians (

Conclusion:

Agree in prayer for Ontario:
- get network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
